짐 리브스(James Travis Reeves, 1923년 8월 20일~1964년 7월 31일)는        
1950년대와 1960년대에 활동한 미국의 컨트리 싱어송라이터로서 국제적으로 명성을 얻었다.  
부드러운 “내슈빌 사운드”의 선구자로서 신사 짐으로 알려졌으며,
그의 음악은 1964년 비행기 사고로 40세로 타계한 이후에도        
그의 노래는 꾸준히 높은 순위를 차지하였다.         
그는 컨트리 뮤직 명예의 전당과 텍사스 컨트리 뮤직 명예의 전당에 올랐다.

02 Little Things Mean A Lot (Cliff Richard)

 

1940년 10월 14일 인도의 럭크나우에서 해리 로저 웹(Harry Roger Webb)의 본명으로 태어난 클리프 리차드는
엘비스 프레슬리로부터 영향을 받아 1957년부터 가수 활동을 시작했다.그는 흑인 감성이 풍부했던 엘비스와
달리 경쾌하고 팝 적인 느낌이 짙은 음악으로 '영국의 로큰롤 황제'로 등극했다.
1963년 비틀스(Beatles)와 롤링 스톤스(Rolling Stones)가 등장하기 전까지 클리프 리차드는 브리티시 록의
'절대 강자'였으며 그의 음악 세계는 그 누구도 범접할 수 없는 성지(聖地)였다.
1958년 'Move it'으로 시작한 히트 퍼레이드는 1960년대 후반까지 40곡 이상을 영국 인기 차트에 등록시키며
경이로운 행진을 기록했다. 당시 그의 백 밴드 드리프터스(Drifters)는 미국의 리듬 앤 블루스 보컬 그룹과
이름이 같다는 이유로 우리에게 널리 알려진 섀도우스(Shadows)로 바꾸었다.

04 Rainy Night In Georgia (Brook Benton)

 

"Rainy Night in Georgia"는 1962년 Tony Joe White의 작곡으로

1970년에 R&B 보컬리스트 Brook Benton이 불러 잘 알려진 곡이다.

이 곡은 Ray Charles, Amos Garrett, Hank Williams, Jr, Aaron Neville 등 여러 가수에 의해 불려졌던 곡이다.

1979년 아메리칸뮤직 어워드 인기남자가수상, 인기 앨범상
1979년 그래미 어워드 컨트리부문 최우수 남자가수상
1980년대 초반 우리나라에서 컨트리 음악의 인기 몰이에 공을 세운 가수는
덥수룩한 수염으로 유명한 케니 로저스(Kenny Rogers)다.

그는 분명 컨트리 아티스트지만 1980년대 초반 당시 국내에서 사랑 받았던
"Lady", "Islands in the stream",
"We've got tonight", 그리고 "Don't fall in love with a dreamer" 등은
정통 컨트리 음악과 거리가 멀었다.

1980년 6주간 정상의 자리를 지키면서 그의 대표곡이 된
"Lady"는 코모도스(Commodores) 출신의
흑인 싱어 송라이터 라이오넬 리치(Lionel Richie)가 작곡했고,

 1983년 돌리 파튼(Dolly Parton)과 듀엣으로 녹음해 2번째로 1위에 등극한
"Islands in the stream"은
디스코의 지존 비지스(Bee Gees)의 맏형 배리 깁(Barry Gibb)이 만들어 준 곡이었으며
시나 이스턴(Sheena Easton)과 함께 한 "We've got tonight(1983년 3위)"은
미국의 록큰롤 싱어 송라이터 밥 시거(Bob Seger)의 노래를 리매이크 한 것이다.
그리고 킴 칸스가 만들고 함께 호흡을 맞춘
"Don't fall in love with a dreamer(1980년 4위)"도
컨트리팝이라기 보다는 어덜트 컨템포러리 발라드다.
